Unfriend

A long time ago, when we were just in primary schools playing with our friends,

sometimes we got into a fight or quarrel, we would always say

"I don't want to friend you anymore"

It is as simple as that. But it won't be long, maybe just a few hours later or a day later,

we would be the best of friends again. Such innocence.

The world seemed to revolve around us.

Couldn't wait for the school bell to ring for recess!

It was a game of rounders with the boys. The girls, rolling up their sleeves and pushing

and shoving with the boys. Sadly, I don't see this anymore.

The innocence of yesteryears are gone. Now, they are segregation

between the boys and the girls. In the primary schools now, even in an all-girls school,

the girls are not to play or run around but to line up to the canteen and eat quietly.

 Reader's Digest May 2010

As I was flicking through the May issue of Reader's Digest,

I came across the word 'Unfriend' in Word Power page.

It says strictly speaking, it means to remove someone as a friend from a

social networking site, such as Facebook. Or it can be used to mean the

detachment in real life from a friend you have fallen out with,

or one who's become dull or annoying.

Huh! At my age now, I don't want to not want to be friend or unfriend anybody.

It is so comforting to know we have lots of friends!!!!
